Terrorism and counter-terrorism policy with a particular
focus on economic aspects, Critical Infrastructure Protection,
Rational Choice Theory.
Curriculum vitae
Eric van Um studied political science and economics at the
Universities of Mannheim and Heidelberg and graduated as
Magister Artium in 2007. His thesis dealt with US foreign
policy vis-à-vis China regarding a potential “New Containment”
of the United States. Following his graduation, he was an
intern at a private institute offering security consultancy
in the Hague, Netherlands. From 2008 to 2009 he successfully
completed the postgraduate Master’s program “Master of Peace
and Security Studies” at the IFSH, Hamburg. His final thesis
was on the rationality of terrorists and implications for
counter-terrorism policy. Since October 2009, Eric van Um
has been a research assistant and PhD student at the IFSH
(ZEUS).
