Eliza Gheorghe is Visiting Fellow at the IFSH. She earned her doctorate in International Relations from the University of Oxford (No Corrections, 2014) and an M.A. (Honors, 2010) in Security Studies from Georgetown University. In her main role, she is Assistant Professor in the International Relations Department at Bilkent Universit (Turkey), since September 2018. Previously, she held fellowships at Yale University, the Harvard Kennedy School, Cornell University, Johns Hopkins University, Université Paris 1 Panthéon – Sorbonne, and the Norwegian Institute for Defense Studies. She is an alumna of the Fulbright Scholarship Program, which she held while pursuing her M.A. degree at Georgetown. She also held fellowships at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars (as a Romanian Cultural Institute Scholar), Fundação Getúlio Vargas, and the University of Vienna.
At IFSH, Eliza Gheorghe is completing an article-length monograph on nuclear alliances during the Cold War, comparing extended nuclear deterrence within NATO and the Warsaw Pact. Her work otherwise focuses on nuclear proliferation and the evolution of the atomic market; questions of grand strategy; nuclear dominoes; and illicit trade and trafficking networks.
