Vita
Sebastian Schiek is a visiting fellow and lecturer (Lehrbeauftragter) at the Institute for East European Studies at the Freie Universität Berlin. He is co-founder of an organisation for sustainability research and cooperation in Eurasia. From 2016 to 2019, he was a research fellow in the Research Group 'Eastern Europe and Eurasia' of the Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik (SWP). At the IFSH he was a research associate and lecturer from 2011-2015 as well as a doctoral candidate. He completed his doctorate at IFSH in 2013 with a thesis on 'Contradictory State Formation in Kazakhstan'.

Sebastian Schiek is a political scientist with a regional focus on Central Asia and its surroundings. He is interested in cross-cutting issues of political economy and ecology, authoritarianism and historical sociology.
