The contribution takes up the process of othering, a particular construction of self and other in discourse and interaction. While current and past conflicts seem to show that processes of othering are rather negatively biased, involving a differentiation and distancing from the other, attempts to see the other as different but equal would still be positive for tolerance and cooperative relations. The chapter focuses on how the process of othering influences and constitutes conflict in global politics via the identity/alterity nexus.
