On 7 November, Oliver Meier participated as an expert in a meeting of the subcommittee on disarmament, arms control and nonproliferation in the German Bundestag. The meeting focused on the planned modernization of U.S. nuclear weapons deployed in Europe. Oliver Meier’s testimony can be found here. As part of its project on the reduction of the role of tactical nuclear weapons in European security, IFSH also published a Nuclear Policy Paper by Hans Kristensen of the Federation of American Scientists on the consequences of nuclear modernization plans in Europe. On 30 October, Oliver Meier moderated a panel on the control of tactical nuclear weapons on a workshop at the Polish Institute of International Affairs in Warsaw on “Options for progress in European arms control.” On 24-25 October Katarzyna Kubiak and Oliver Meier participated in a seminar on “The Consequences of NATO’s Deterrence and Defense Posture Review for German Security and Defense Policy” at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs in Berlin. Oliver Meier spoke on the future role of arms control and disarmament in NATO.
