At the request of the governmental party Die Linke, the Federal Government recently made public further details about defence against cyberattacks in general, as well as the co-operation of German authorities with the European Union Intelligence and Situation Centre (INTCEN) specifically. The IFSH’s cyberspace expert Thomas Reinhold analyses the government’s statements in his blog entry. In it, he examines the Federal Ministry of Defence’s difficulties in responding adequately to cyberattacks, among other things. In a similar vein, the continued expansion of offensive military capabilities in cyberspace underlines how important it is to regulate this sphere through binding rules and norms, and to work together at the international level.
