From 10-11 September, Eric van Um participated in a conference at the University of Kent in Canterbury (UK) which was organized by the “Conflict Analysis Research Centre“ (University of Kent) and the „BISA Critical Studies on Terrorism Working Group”.
The conference aimed to highlight and expore the empirical, methodological and ontological points of interjection between peace and conflict studies and studies on terrorism. The panels brought together researchers on these fields as well as civil society actors and policy actors who discussed how the two fields are related.
Eric van Um presented findings from his research on inter-group violence between militant groups. This form of violence has been largely neglected as an issue of research in the field of terrorism studies. In contrast to that, the study of inter-group violence has increasingly attracted attention in the field of peace and conflict studies often as part of the research on civil wars and ethnic violence.
