The European Union faces fundamental challenges in the area of foreign, security and defence policy. Relations with Russia have reached a new low. China is gaining ground in the game of the great powers, not least because of its rapid economic recovery after the pandemic. Transatlantic relations have suffered in recent years and are gradually improving with Joe Biden as the new US president. Nevertheless, diverging strategic interests remain, not only with regard to the level of defence spending by NATO members.
At the invitation of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation and the EKD (Brussels Office), IFSH Director Prof. Dr Ursula Schröder will present this year's Peace Report, which is dedicated to the peace and security policy challenges of the European Union. This will be followed by a panel discussion.
