Federal Foreign Office Conference on the Future of Conventional Arms Control

On 6-7 September 2017 in Berlin, the Federal Foreign Office and the European Leadership Network co-hosted the conference “Making Conventional Arms Control Fit for the 21st Century”, which was attended by some 150 representatives of government and think tanks. The conference was opened by Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel, who gave a speech in which he positioned himself convincingly in the German tradition of a persistent quest for conventional arms control in Europe. Subsequently, the different political, conceptual and technological aspects of conventional arms control were discussed in a number of panels and working groups. CORE was represented by Frank Evers and Wolfgang Zellner, who participated in the panel “How could a new, effective Conventional Arms Control architecture look like?”
