IFSH Researcher at ISA Annual Conference 2023

Survey experiments, increasingly popular in studying international politics, were highlighted in a dedicated panel at the recent International Studies Association (ISA) 2023 Annual Convention in Montréal. Ondřej Rosendorf presented two papers co-authored by Michal Smetana and Marek Vranka (both Peace Research Center Prague), exploring public opposition to autonomous weapons and the audience costs incurred by American leaders when backing down from nuclear threats. Other panelists discussed weapons taboos, public attitudes towards nuclear proliferation, and the reputational costs that leaders face when demonstrating resolve. These surveys can offer valuable insights to policymakers, helping them make more informed decisions.
