Sybille Reinke de Buitrago participated in the international workshop "Islamic Peace Ethics: Legitimate and Illegtiimate Violence in Conttemporary Islamic Thought", October 15-17, 2015, at the Institute for Theology and Peace, Hamburg. Scholars from or based in Belgium, Germany, Indonesia, Iran, Pakistan, the UK and the US attended the workshop to present their work in a miltidisciplinary debate. Sybille Reinke de Buitrago contributed with her paper "How Can We Talk about Islamic Peace Ethics? Conceptual Considerations on the Normative". In her paper she examined the tension between normative universality and cultural plurality. She also considered various notions of peace as well as elaborated the partly problematic Western discourse on Islam and Muslims. The workshop is part of the Institute for Peace and Theology's project on Islamic Peace Ethics.
