The risk of nuclear weapons use in the Euro-Atlantic area has increased sharply in recent years. The reason for this can be found in Russia's geopolitical struggle with the USA and NATO. This conflict has led to a number of dangerous misunderstandings, among other things in the areas of nuclear operational doctrines and in the mutual interpretation of political goals to be pursued. On behalf of the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR), Dr. Ulrich Kühn has analysed the nuclear risks in Europe and formulated recommendations. His contribution is part of a newly published volume on the reduction of nuclear risks worldwide.
