"The European Peace and Security Order under Threat" at FES

On 4.-5. May 2015, the Friedrich-Ebert-Foundation organized the conference „70/40/25 – The European Peace and Security Order under Threat – Open Space for a Progressive Peace Policy.” On that occasion Katarzyna Kubiak chaired a discussion group on “Designing a new Security Order in Europe”. Due to the consequences of the annexation of Crimea by Russia and the ongoing war in Eastern Ukraine, Europe faces a new division. Moreover, the existing principles of the security order are being questioned, throwing into doubt its long-term viability. Have the CSCE Final Act and the Paris Charter – not to mention the security order they established outlived their relevance? Will disarmament, arms control and a trust-building dialogue become potential guidelines for a European Peace and Security Order?
