The IFSH is an interdisciplinary research institute at the University of Hamburg, which is funded by the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. The research activities of the IFSH concentrate on analyzing current developments and challenges for peace and security with a focus on the Euro-Atlantic and Eurasian region. The transfer of knowledge from research to politics and society is a fundamental component of the Institute's work.


We are looking for a student employee for our Berlin location as of 01.11.2024. The assignment is limited until 31.03.2026 at the latest. The working time comprises up to 10 hours per week and is paid according to TV-AVH EG2. You will support the content and organizational work in the BMBF-funded joint project “Comprehensively strengthening standards against chemical and biological weapons: The CBW Competence Network”, coordinating with the management of the Institute's Berlin office.


The position is part of the BMBF-funded joint project “Comprehensively strengthening norms against chemical and biological weapons: The CBW Competence Network”, which is being carried out jointly by IFSH; the Chair of Public Law and International Law at the Justus Liebig University Giessen; the Leibniz Institute Hessian Foundation for Peace and Conflict Research (HSFK); and the Carl Friedrich von Weizsäcker Center for Science and Peace Research (ZNF) at the University of Hamburg. The project examines how the prohibition norms in the multilateral treaty regimes on chemical and biological weapons, which have come under pressure, can be strengthened.


Your mission

  •     Simple filing tasks (mail, archiving, cash management, copying)
  •     Maintaining the address database for the competence network
  •     Assistance with the organization of public and confidential events of the Competence Network
  •     Assistance with travel planning and bookings
  •     Organizational support for the newsletter and the project's website
  •     Formatting and editing scientific texts
  •     Assisting with research on chemical and bioweapons control topics

Your profile

We are looking for you if you


  •     are a registered student at a state-recognized German university
  •     are confident in using all common MS Office applications
  •     have a very good command of German and English
  •     work independently and responsibly
  •     enjoy working in a team
  •     have a quick grasp, conscientiousness and a careful way of working


basic knowledge in the field of peace research and arms control through studies and/or internships or work experience (also as a student or research assistant) is an advantage.
