The Institute for Peace Research and Security Policy at the University of Hamburg (IFSH) has succeeded in winning sponsorship from the Federal Foreign Office for a major project with funding worth millions. In future, Hamburg peace researchers will conduct targeted studies into new security policy risks and their containment through arms control. The Hanseatic city will thus become one of the most important centres of expertise for peace research and arms control – in Germany and throughout Europe.

In the presence of Federal Foreign Minister Heiko Maas, the “Arms Control and Emerging Technologies” research and transfer project will be officially launched next Tuesday, 21 May. Hamburg's First Mayor, Dr Peter Tschentscher, will host a Senate Reception at Hamburg City Hall.
