Peace Researchers in Dialogue with the Munich Security Conference (MSC)

Dr. Anna Kreikemeyer (c) IFSH

For the third time the Munich Peace Meeting took place on November 16, 2021, this year as a video conference due to the pandemic. The conference is organized by the Projektgruppe Münchner Sicherheitskonferenz verändern e.V. It brings together representatives from peace research, peace work and the peace movement with staff members of the Munich Security Conference for constructive critical dialogues. The MSC is interested in this exchange and promotes it.
This year, the focus was on confidence building. In alternating workshops and plenary sessions, nearly 40 participants discussed widespread mistrust in international relations. They therefore dealt with possibilities of confidence building, e.g. strengthening the instrument of mediation in international conflicts, overcoming losses of confidence between NATO and Russia, dealing more intensively with the colonial heritage of Western states and more.
IFSH peace researcher Dr. Anna Kreikemeyer participated in two workshops, where she contributed her research findings on the role of peaceful local actors in cooperation with international peace missions.

She recently published a policy brief on this topic. You can read more about it here: https://ifsh.de/publikationen/policy-brief/policy-brief-0421
