The U.S. and the Treaty on Open Skies

The United States have announced their intention to withdraw from the Open Skies Treaty. The decision will take effect in November this year. However, already on 06 July a state conference of all member states needs to decide whether to save the treaty even without U.S. participation. The OSCE platform “Security and Human Rights Monitor” (SHRM), a platform administered under the auspices of the Netherlands Helsinki Committee (NHC), reports about possible consequences of the U.S. withdrawal and expectations for the conference. The platform also talked to IFSH expert Dr. Alexander Graef.
