Software technologies are increasingly influencing warfare; but are they also a “game changer”, i.e. a groundbreaking technology boost, fundamentally revolutionizing elements of warfare? And furthermore, what security implications would arise from this? These are questions that have hardly been investigated so far. Based on an analysis of technology and discourse, this DSF-funded research project will deepen interdisciplinary understandings of software technologies and their impact on modern warfare and international security in order to support the development of suitable arms control mechanisms.
