Mateusz Łabuz is a researcher at the research focus International Cybersecurity at the IFSH and a PhD researcher at the Chemnitz University of Technology where he researches deep fakes and synthetic media. Before joining the IFSH in November 2024, he worked as a lecturer on cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and disinformation at the University of the National Education Commission and the Pontifical University of John Paul II in Cracow. He used to be a diplomat at the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and graduated at the Diplomatic Academy in Poland.

Mateusz Łabuz researches deep fakes and AI generated content, so-called synthetic media, as well as their impact on social and political processes. His interest comprises the influence of artificial intelligence on cybersecurity and hybrid threats, as well as emerging trends in the disinformation sphere. In this context, Mateusz Łabuz also conducts research on social resilience, proposing a holistic approach to counteracting cognitive warfare. He has published numerous analyses devoted to regulating deep fakes, with particular emphasis on the provisions of the EU AI Act and the axiological foundations for creating these regulations.
