IFSH cordially welcomes new MPS students

The new class of 2024/2025 (c) IFSH

The new cohort of the Master’s programme Peace and Security Studies has started its studies: 19 students from Germany, Georgia and Peru will now gain academic and practical insights into peace research and security policy in four and two semesters respectively.

The interim academic coordinator of the course, Vojtěch Drápal, and IFSH Director Prof. Dr Ursula Schröder welcomed the students on October 7. Considering the global war situation, Schröder explained that the content of the course has seldom been more topical and relevant than it is today.

Tighltly-packed programme
During the first week of study, the partner institutes of the degree course, the so-called KoFrieS cooperation network, and the alumni association introduced themselves. There was also a campus tour of the neighbouring Von-Melle-Park of the University of Hamburg. In addition to interdisciplinary seminars, students can also look forward to an excursion to Berlin in the coming weeks and months. There, they will visit various state and civil society institutions and think tanks. In 2002, the IFSH was the first institute in Germany to introduce a degree course in conflict research. In either two or four semesters, young people who have already completed a degree acquire theoretical and practical knowledge about peace research and security policy.

What makes the degree programme special
The Peace and Security degree course is distinguished by its interdisciplinary orientation and the combination of academic and practical learning. The course is supported by numerous faculties and institutes within the “Cooperation Network for Peace Research and Security Policy” (KoFrieS), because the Master's degree makes graduates sought-after specialists for them.
