Afghanistan
Since the withdrawal of international troops from Afghanistan, the Taliban has taken control of the country. For two decades, the US-led military coalition attempted to stabilise the country and establish a market economy-oriented democracy where women’s rights as well as basic human rights were respected. As the second-largest supplier of troops, Germany played a significant role in the mission from the beginning. But this stabilisation and state building mission has now failed. In mid-August 2021, the West’s large-scale security and development project became the “Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan”.
